JUDGING

 

The Miss Texas Earth United States competition is divided into equally scored categories. These categories are designed to model after the international expectations of the Miss Earth United States competition as well as desired attributes of the winners. The judging panel will be announced in the weeks prior to the competition, consisting of experienced and unbiased members of the Communication, Entertainment, Fitness, Beauty, and/or Business fields.

 

MISS (Age 18-26)

Interview, Photogenic, Multimedia, Public Speaking, Swimsuit, Runway, Evening Gown

 

ELITE (Age 26-32) & TEEN (Age 14-18)

Interview, Photogenic, Swimsuit, Runway, Evening Gown

 

JUNIOR (Age 11-14)

Interview, Photogenic, Summer Wear, Runway, Evening Gown

 

In all divisions, the Top 5 will answer a final on-stage question and will be selected by ballot.

 

INTERVIEW

All Divisions: Each contestant will have a panel interview lasting 4 minutes. This is the chance for the judges to get to know each candidate personally. Contestants should wear her own choice of professional and trendy dress, skirt set, or pant set. City sashes will be worn during interview. Each contestant will be judged on her ability to fulfill a titleholder’s responsibilities. Judges will assign a score based on the contestant’s communication skills, personality, personal appearance, sense of accomplishment, and goals within her title. Contestants will not be scored on their opinions or personal beliefs.

 

SWIMSUIT

Miss & Elite: Contestants will be provided a two-piece bikini. Competition sashes will be worn during swimsuit. Each contestant will be evaluated on her overall physical health and lifestyle. She will be judged on her level of confidence necessary to be a titleholder. Judges will assign a score based on the contestant’s physical fitness, confidence, composure, and display of drive, energy and charisma.

 

SUMMER WEAR

Teen & Junior: Contestants will be provided a summery dress. Competition sashes will be worn during summer wear. Each contestant will be evaluated on her overall physical health and lifestyle. She will be judged on her level of confidence necessary to be a titleholder. Judges will assign a score based on the contestant’s physical health, confidence, composure, and display of drive, energy and charisma.

 

EVENING GOWN

All Divisions: Contestants will wear her own choice of evening gown, which must touch the floor and must be age appropriate. Each contestant will be assessed on her poise, grace, and commanding stage presence. Each contestant will be judged on her total look. Judges will assign a score based on the contestant’s beauty, carriage and grace, personality, and stage presence, as well as her sense of style.

 

RUNWAY

All Divisions: Contestants will be provided a dress. Competition sashes will be worn during runway. Each contestant will be assessed on her poise, personality, and commanding stage presence. Each contestant will be judged on her total look. Judges will assign a score based on the contestant’s beauty, carriage, personality, and stage presence, as well as her sense of style.

 

PHOTOGENIC

All Divisions: Contestants will submit an official headshot prior to the competition which may not have hands covering the face and may not include a crown or sash. It must be professionally taken with a White background. Each contestant will be assessed on her natural beauty in this photograph. The Photogenic category will be scored only after the Interview, allowing the judge to compare face-to-face beauty as well. Judges will assign a score based on the contestant’s photo beauty, in-person beauty, healthy appearance (skin, hair, nails, teeth), and sense of style.

 

MULTIMEDIA

Miss: Contestants will be provided a Facebook fan page, Twitter and Instagram account. Each contestant will be assessed on her quality of posts and engagement with her fan-base. During the weeks surrounding the competition, she will be given multimedia challenges and level of engagement will be measured during a particular time period. A multimedia sponsor will assign a score based on these attributes.

 

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Miss: Contestants will give a two to three minute presentation on her choice of environmental topics and relevancy to young adults in the United States and the Miss Earth competition. This can be about her choice of platform. She will have a handheld microphone and any optional props must be easy to take on and off stage. Each contestant should wear her choice of professional or appropriate attire. City sashes will be worn during public speaking. Judges will assign a score based on the contestant’s speaking skills, confidence, memorization, posture, knowledge of issues, and overall impact.

 

ON-STAGE QUESTION

All Divisions: Each contestant in the Top 5 will be asked one question while wearing her evening gown. The answer should be approximately 30 seconds. The same question will be asked in each division; however the other contestants will not hear the question until their turn to answer. Scoring will be based on this answer combined with the judge's overall impression of the candidate throughout the competition. The contestant must be charismatic, articulate, impacting, able to handle the pressure of large crowds, and must answer the question asked.
